May 10 - News

Our Buck-A-Block program is off an running, but you can still get in on it! We've created three colorways for you to choose from.  The green is made from Benartex's ASPEN fabrics, the purple is made from Benartex's newest fabrics - BELISSIMO and the blue is made from a variety of fabrics but features Andover's EMPRESS GARDEN.

Other new fabrics in the shop is a group of vegetable dyed fabrics from Andover.  They are joining our other natural fabrics - organics from Michael Miller and bamboo fabrics from Hoffman.

Another new grouping is GELATO from Maywood.  These are shaded across the width of the fabric - great for applique.  There are several patterns featuring these fabrics.  If my days were longer, I'd have samples made up!

Eleanor Burns' new book VICTORY QUILTS, 1940's Sampler Quilts, is in, along with the mini template set.  Sorry, I chose not to get the fabrics that several of you have asked about.  We already have a nice selection of 30's/40's fabrics on hand as well as the fabrics shown in her book are not necessarily those from the collection.

New books from Martingale are WONDER BLOCKS, Stack, Cut, Sew, Go, ROLLING ALONG - Jellyroll Friendly and COPY CAT QUILTS

There will be a Quilt Festival at Penn Alps this summer.  The dates are July 11 and 12 from 10AM to 5PM.  Come enjoy the village, quilts, vendors, crafts and demonstrations.

Connie Brantner had retired.  At this point, I have not replaced her as business does not seem to warrent it at this point.  I'm sure the economy at this point is hitting all of hard.  Connie has offered a ride to anyone in the Cumberland area when she is coming up.  If you are interested you may call her at 240-362-7531.

Come see us soon!

January 7, 2008

The New Year is off and running,  our inventory is almost done and we are ready to go!

New Cross Stitch charts come from Passion Ricamo, Kustom Crafts, Calico Crossroads, Imaginating, Glendon Place, Victoria Sampler and a few from Leisure Arts.  I heard someone commenting the other day that our charts are "old"!  Yes, a lot of them are.  But you can often find great charts among these older ones - many of them nicer that those available now.  We still carry all of the Lavender & Lace angles, although their popularity has diminished.  They are still some of the best charts available and easier to do than many others.

We've added a few FANTASTIX fabric paints from Tsuineko.  If you attended our Open House you had the opportunity to see these used.  If we have enough interest, we will organize a class on using these wonderful paints.  They stay soft even when ironed to make them washable.

New Quilting Books from Martingale and C&T - Nine by Nine, Mosaic Picture Quilts, Cutting Garden Quilts, Little Box of Quilter's Chocolate Desserts, Piecing the Piece-O-Cake Way, Color Splashed Quilts, Guiltmaker's Fancy, Make your First Quilt with M'Liss Rae Hawley.

Two of Eleanor Burns' new patterns look interesting - Tossed Nine Patch and Twisted Star.

You will find a "Jelly Roll" corner in the shop with lots of jelly rolls and books to support their use - Strip Pieced Quilts, Strip Crazy, Strip Delight, Strip Happy, Stripping Along, Noodle Soup and Another Can of  Worms.   There will be more patterns and books coming soon.  Looks like jelly rolls are hot!

New Fabrics include the Hoffman Challenge, more Thimbleberries, Northcott's latest Quest For The Cure fabrics, Antique Serenity from Cara Collection (these have a little more color added to the taupe coloraions), Aspen from Benartex (beautiful roses and greens), and Michael Miller's new Organic Cotton fabrics have just arrived.

CON-KER CANCER is an opportunity to "Give A Sick Child A Smile".  You and I can help by making pillowcases to be donated to hospitals.  We have brochures with instructions available.  You may choose your own fabrics or we will be making up some kits at a nominal price. Pillowcases would then be returned to the shop to be picked up by one of our customers and delivered to hospitals.

Sign up now for classes!  Beginners Quilting will begin at the end of February or the beginning of March.  The cost is $100 plus your book and runs for ten months with one class per month.  Katharine would like to do a class on Eleanor Burns' book Quick Trip Quilts.  Another possibilty is the Tossed Nine Patch.  Please let us know if you would be interested in any of these classes.

Preferred Buyers Cards are still available.  Just remember, we are not keeping a record of who buys a card this year, so you will need to have the card with you to show us when you make a purchase.
